Tea & Lifestyle

For billions, drinking tea is more than just a beverage. It’s a way of life.  After water, tea is the world’s second most popular drink. Since 2020, 6.3 billion kilograms of tea is consumed every year and that number is only expected to grow.

Let us go through some of the ways in which tea is a part of a lifestyle.

Tea customs and traditions

When it comes to tea, every culture has its own customs and traditions. In the United Kingdom, it is taken with milk. In the United States, it is popular as iced tea. In Arabian society, it is often brewed with sugar and served in long glasses.

Tea has over a thousand varieties. You will find that wherever you go to, there are different ways to prepare and drink tea. For instance, a royal cup of tea served to members of the British Monarchy will stir the milk into the tea in a back and forth direction, never in circular motions.

However, one thing is fixed: In almost every part of the world, giving tea to visitors and guests is a universal sign of hospitality.

Can drinking tea contribute to a healthy lifestyle?

Tea contains antioxidants called polyphenols. These chemicals neutralize elevated oxidants in the body and decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease. According to Harvard Health, those who regularly drink tea have a lower chance of developing diabetes, reduced high blood pressure and improved cholesterol. Similarly, high levels of catechins in green tea significantly contribute to weight loss.

Furthermore, herbal teas are popular for their wide range of flavors. They also have their own individual health benefits. For instance, if you have trouble falling asleep, a warm brew of chamomile tea before bedtime will improve your quality of sleep. Likewise, peppermint tea promotes calmness while dandelion tea stimulates digestion and eases constipation.

As long as you have a good bill of health, you can drink as many as eight cups of herbal tea daily.   Interestingly, drinking tea promotes healthier habits. In a research, those who drank tea were much likelier to eat fresh fruits and drink water or juice. It would seem that merely drinking tea could encourage you to take steps to live healthy.

Tea is a great mood-fixer

What’s more, tea significantly reduces the risk of developing hypertension and improves alertness and attention. It can improve and regulate your mood, and even boost your creativity. So the next time you have to solve a problem, be sure to sip an aromatic cup of tea to help you brainstorm.

Above all, drinking tea offers you a chance to slow down and look around you. In our constantly 24/7 connected world, tea hits the Pause button to breathe and relax. It is a stress-reliever, a way to unwind with your friends or family after a hard day’s work.

So put the kettle on and make drinking tea an important part of your lifestyle. Life is too short not to enjoy it.
